Design Spotlight - Indoor PlantsSpring is slowly creeping into the picture, and with the new season, it’s a great time to highlight another design trend — plants. More specifically, we are spotlighting indoor plants.

We aren’t talking your grandma’s leafy greens, but a new wave and adaptation of the common house plant.

From floral arrangements to climbing ivy, plants have been reinvented and reimagined to once again take center stage in home decor and design.

The use of plants and/or flowers has the ability to freshen and liven up any space, and in a lot of cases, it doesn’t have to be complicated or impractical.  Below are some trends and plants that we think you can use to incorporate in your home today.

  1. WE WERE MINT TO BE TOGETHER – The most practical way to incorporate some foliage in your life is through fresh herbs. Mint, basil, thyme, rosemary, the list goes on and on of incredible plants that not only look good and bring life to the window sill, but also come in handy when cooking. Skip the seeds because grocery stores and your local garden centers will have these plants well grown and cultivated with instructions on maintenance included.
  2. EVERYTHING SUCCS WITHOUT YOU – Cacti and succulents are extremely hot right now; these plants are desirable because of their versatility and maintenance.  They come in different shapes, sizes and colors and because they are drought tolerant, they typically take less water and can stand the heat of a hot summer; if you don’t have a green thumb and instead have the kiss of death when it comes to gardening, these are the plants for you. Use them as a large centerpiece or as a compliment to your bedroom nightstand, either option is sure to impress.
  3. I BE-LEAF WE BELONG TOGETHER – Lastly, make a statement with a large stand alone plant or tree. Big leafy plants like the fiddle leaf fig or split leaf philodendron among other miniature palm trees are sure to accent any space and fill in that awkward blank corner we all seem to have in our homes. These plants take a little more work to maintain, but really make a difference in the overall design of the house. To really make them stand out, place the plants in a decorative pot or floating plant stand.

It also doesn’t have to be expensive to have inside plants. The first two examples are incredibly cheap, and while a fiddle leaf fig or split leaf philodendron can tend to be more expensive, getting a plant at a smaller size and taking on the responsibility of its growth can save you quite a bit.
