Design Spotlight - 2018 Pantone Color of the Year - Ultra VioletKeep up with the latest trends in home design right here on our blog. Whether you are looking for the perfect design touches to make your property standout on the market or just wanting to impress the neighbors, we will be showcasing some practical ways to make an impact by keeping your design current.

Because it’s the first of the year, and it’s a great place to start from, we will be diving into the PANTONE® Color of the Year for 2018, Ultra Violet 18-3838. If you are unfamiliar with PANTONE®, it is essentially a company used primarily for identifying and matching colors for printing purposes. It is home to a massive library that even identifies a color code based on different types of printing methods and end product type (hence the code 18-3838 associated with the name Ultra Violet).

Each year the company in a collaborative meeting with several international representatives selects a color that embodies the year ahead; like mentioned before, the color selected for 2018, is Ultra Violet 18-3838.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
– Leatrice Eiseman | Executive Director of the PANTONE Color Institute

Here are some ways that we think you can utilize this beautiful color and incorporate it within any design scheme:

  1. PAINT – Use this color to set off a room or make an entry way or door really pop. Be careful though, while it is great in providing a dark contract, getting carried away can make a room feel small and dark; light colored accents and a bright room are great at combatting this issue.
  2. AREA RUG & OTHER ACCENTS – An Ultra Violet rug has the ability to really ground a living room or dining space, and with it being a blue based purple, the two colors really compliment each other like in the example shown above, and if you check the Houzz website, that rug (8’x10′) is on sale for less than $250! Other great pieces would include pillows, lamps and floral arrangements.
  3. FURNITURE – Lastly, add a little color to any space by purchasing an accent chair in Ultra Violet or by painting a cabinet piece. This deep color will add a focal point to a room that might otherwise seem plain or vanilla.
